Strong operating results bolstered by success of The Hunger Games

New York — July 19, 2012 — Scholastic Corporation (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, today reported significant revenue and earnings growth for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended May 31, 2012. The Company also outlined its fiscal 2013 plan to continue investing in key long-term growth initiatives, including ebooks and educational technology, and to sustain operating improvements and strong free cash flow.

Award-Winning Author Ellen Levine (1939-2012) Dies at Age 73

New York, NY (May 30, 2012)--Ellen Levine, award-winning author, teacher, mentor and fierce fighter for social justice, died on May 26, 2012, after a valiant 19-month battle with lung cancer. She died peacefully with her beloved spouse and partner of 40 years, Anne Koedt, and her devoted sister Mada Liebman and adored brother-in-law Burt Liebman by her side.

Ms. Levine graduated with a B.A., magna cum laude with honors, from Brandeis University, an M.A. from University of Chicago, and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Leo Dillon, Award-Winning Author/Illustrator, Dies at Age 79

New York, NY (May 30, 2012)--LEO DILLON, one of the world’s most celebrated children’s book artists—internationally applauded for creating a world of stunning multicultural books using a broad diversity of art styles and ethnic backgrounds—died on Saturday, May 26, in Brooklyn, New York. He was 79. “The cause was complications of a sudden illness requiring lung surgery,” said Bonnie Verburg, his longtime editor at the Blue Sky Press/Scholastic and formerly Harcourt. Mr. Dillon, who died at Long Island College Hospital, lived in nearby Brooklyn.
