Happy Dreamer to Be Published in Fall 2016

New York, NY—March 6, 2015—Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, has acquired North American rights at auction to three picture books by bestselling author-illustrator Peter H. Reynolds. The first book, Happy Dreamer, will be published in fall 2016. The deal was negotiated by Holly McGhee, the founder of Pippin Properties, and Liza Baker, VP/Executive Editorial Director for Cartwheel and Orchard Books at Scholastic.

“Peter’s ability to tap into and inspire a child's creative spirit is unmatched and his mission to make the world a better place, book by book, child by child shines through in every expressive word and captivating gesture of his paintbrush,” said Liza Baker. “I'm elated to collaborate with him for many years to come, starting with his dazzling book Happy Dreamer. Let's just say I'm a Happy Editor.”

“After three decades of working with educators, teaming up with Scholastic is the perfect next chapter for me,” said Peter H. Reynolds. “Happy Dreamer is inspired by my own creative journey. I want readers to say ‘Hey, that’s me!’ and realize that their daydreaming, their wild energy—and even their challenges—are all good. I want to encourage kids—and grownup kids—to be happy with who they are, and to be confident about what lies ahead.”

Happy Dreamer is a poetic and lyrical celebration of a child’s mind and the wild and unpredictable creative journey that results when inspiration strikes! Reynolds offers readers an intimate window into one active, highly-imaginative little boy’s adventure along the path of creativity as he soars to great heights, surviving the bumps along the way, all the while finding new ways to express his inner feelings, and follow his happiest dreams. At its core, Happy Dreamer is a reminder to every child to tap into his or her inner most aspirations, to reach for the stars, and lovingly embrace all of the things that make them truly unique. This is a profound tribute to individuality, celebrating the different ways we all think, learn and dream presented honestly and tenderly through the brilliant hands of Peter H. Reynolds.
