Tom Snyder Productions’ Timeliner XE Debuts on Adobe AIR at NECC

New Timeliner XE Takes Students Beyond "When and Where" to "How and Why"

WATERTOWN, MA — June 26, 2008 — Tom Snyder Productions, a leading publisher of educational software and a Scholastic company, will launch Timeliner® XE, a revolutionary new version of its popular software Timeliner®, at the 2008 National Educational Computing Conference in San Antonio next week. Developed with cutting edge Adobe AIR® technology, Timeliner XE is an all-in-one tool that helps students in grades K-12 conduct online research; visually organize the information by creating timelines or sequences; and communicate their understanding in rich, multimedia presentations.

A unique feature of the new Timeliner XE is its seamless Web browser for safe, guided information gathering online— without ever leaving the program. The built-in browser allows users to surf the Web, take notes, and grab online images, sounds, and movies, complete with citations.

"Using Adobe AIR, Tom Snyder Productions has an application that brings the benefits of the Web to desktops in the classroom," said Peter Isaacson, VP for Education at Adobe Systems. "Timeliner XE is one of the best education applications developed with Adobe AIR so far, and a great showcase of applications in any industry."

Timeliner XE supports the teaching and learning of 21st century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and communication, while working across the core curriculum: creating timelines in social studies to track chronological events, continuity and change over time; in science to investigate cycles and processes; in language arts to explore story arcs, plot sequence and cause and effect.

Timeliner XE also encourages 21st century skills with its interactive whiteboard support. Additionally, teachers can also create their own research assignments or customize more than 300 activities across the curriculum, including 50 ready-made projects and a variety of interactive challenges to assess student understanding. Other new features of Timeliner XE include easy, intuitive formatting tools for creating timelines and a library of more than 1,000 media files and free articles from Grolier Online®.

"Students today are often overwhelmed with information and need tools to help them make sense of it all," said Rick Abrams, General Manager of Tom Snyder Productions. "Timeliner XE helps them to critically evaluate, synthesize and eventually communicate that information, and in the process transform it into knowledge."
