Moms Pick the Best Mommy Blogs on the Web in the Scholastic Parent & Child Mommy Blogger Awards 2009

Five winners to be featured in the magazine’s June/July issue

New York, NY — March 17, 2009 — Over the past few years, mommy blogs have become an Internet powerhouse, as moms are spending more and more time sharing tips and stories and connecting with other parents online. Scholastic Parent & Child® magazine proudly recognizes the mommy blogging community with the announcement of the top five winners of its first-ever Mommy Blogger Awards, in which moms nominated and voted for their favorite mommy blogs. The voting ended at midnight on March 14, 2009, with over 1000 nominations and more than 10,000 unique votes. The five winning bloggers, chosen by visitors to the Scholastic Parents site, will be featured in Scholastic Parent & Child’s June/July issue, and the winners are:

  1. The Meanest Mom: Meanest? Nah. Funniest? A definite contender. With three children born in the same calendar year, this mom got a crash course in kid juggling.
  2. Do They Have Salsa in China?: This mom and shutterbug puts her twin 3-year-olds girls adopted from China front and center.
  3. Momisodes: This blog boasts a clever TV format and the winning way with words and pictures. Each "episode" unearths a telling moment or universal truth.
  4. My Litter: A newbie, this Stay at Home Mom’s "litter" includes "six kids, numerous cats, a dog, and one husband."
  5. Like Merchant Ships: Packed with frugal and fun ideas, this mom finds beauty in a small budget and treasures in unlikely places.

"Our first Mommy Blogger Awards was a huge success, and we're excited to give these inspiring, compelling, and downright entertaining mothers and writers the credit they deserve," said Nick Friedman, Editor in Chief of Scholastic Parent & Child, "Today’s modern moms are part of the blog generation and the Awards were a great way to further engage them and recognize the value and power mommy bloggers have in conversations on parenting."
